New Aarch provides students at the new Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark with space to innovate.

The project is located on the site of a former railyard, where traces of industrial history shape a bold identity. The building is characterised by its exposed industrial details, highlighting a design adapted to its environment and an intentional simplicity created in response to the school’s need for robust spaces.

New Aarch was designed as a 'factory' for architectural experiments, workshop-based learning and spontaneous synergies between students. While at first glance, the architecture almost resembles an industrial building, closer inspection reveals refined detailing and strong spatial organization.

The relationship between these elements deliberately communicates how a building is constructed. It shows how to refine design through carefully selected materials, thereby allowing architecture to step into the background as a flexible framework for the everyday life and work of the students.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
