TRIAS has renovated Cloaked House in Sydney, Australia.

Cloaked House retains and adapts a dilapidated mid-century home in Sydney – while the house appears new, its facade cloaks an existing structure, improving its thermal performance.

Inside, a new atrium courtyard is carved from the home's heart, drawing light, air and garden within. Materials and details reference the original building, layering recycled and salvaged textures alongside new work.

As a case study, Cloaked House demonstrates how existing housing stock can be radically transformed rather than demolished.

"In this era of climate emergency, it suggests that the best new houses are our existing ones, reimagined for another generation," said TRIAS.
