Marlboro Music Cottages by HGA Architects

US firm HGA Architects and Engineers took cues from Cape Cod-style homes with these cabins for world-renowned musicians visiting Marlboro College.

The Marlboro Music Cottages are located on the school's 500-acre (202-hectare) campus, tucked in the foothills of Vermont's Green Mountains. They accommodate the classical musicians that participate in the Marlboro Music School and Festival each summer.

Woodshed by Birdseye Design

American studio Birdseye Design referenced traditional woodsheds when designing this guesthouse for a forested site in northern Vermont.

The project, fittingly called Woodshed, is situated within a clearing on a sloped, wooded site. It is composed of two volumes with asymmetrical, gabled roofs.

MicroHOUSE by Elizabeth Herrmann Architecture + Design

Elizabeth Herrmann Architecture + Design created this light-coloured micro dwelling with cut-out corners and a sloped roof, aiming to demonstrate that a "small house need not be a claustrophobic, monotonous box".

It was commissioned by an artist who wanted a "beautiful, tiny, energy-efficient home" on a tight budget.

This off-grid home by Kyu Sung Woo Architects features a minimal interior that opens out onto a forest clearing in the mountains.

The firm's principal wanted to build a home where his family could gather on weekends and holidays, and designed its staggered volumes to frame views of the meadow.

Two Shed by Birdseye Design

A pair of buildings with pitched roofs and white-washed exteriors form this home, also by design-build studio Birdseye Design.

The two volumes that make up the residence sit either side of a central exterior space, which is positioned to take advantage of the mountain vistas available from the elevated site.
