The new Assen Station was commissioned by the municipality of Assen, NS, and ProRail and is a collaboration between Powerhouse Company and De Zwarte Hond.

Previously divided by the railway line passing through, Assen's new station forms a connection between the two parts of the city.

The sculptural and iconic triangular canopy, made from cross-laminated timber, is the first of its kind in the Netherlands. A simple architectural gesture, it is an identifier for Assen and creates a landmark for travelers to orient themselves through an inviting and accessible entrance to the city.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
