DJA Studio
by D'Arcy Jones Architects

Sama Jim Canzian

DJA Studio is located in historic Mount Pleasant.

Vancouver's building culture has always favoured renewal, so it does not have many old buildings. The goal of this renovation was to celebrate past ways of building, through contrast and emphasis.

Before beginning the renovation, four layers of existing construction were uncovered to understand the space's latent potential.

The project's ambition was to showcase the practice's own workspace as a place of experimentation, to articulate a more nuanced stance on what re-use can achieve within a culture that prioritizes the new.

This project has been longlisted in the small workspace interior category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
