Haycroft Gardens
by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects

Tim Crocker

This is an energy-efficient multi-generational family home located on a neglected infill plot in suburban north London, designed and constructed according to Passivhaus principles.

Accommodating the living patterns of three generations over time, it responds to a number of pressing topical concerns – an ageing population; the increasing costs of care for the elderly and children; climate change and the need for low-energy, sustainable construction; the challenges of development and densification (backland plots as the site of innovative solutions to living in the city today); and, following Covid, the need for good ventilation options to limit virus exposure.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
