This week Aston Martin revealed its first house design

This week on Dezeen, car brand Aston Martin revealed the first house designed as part of its Automotive Galleries and Lairs residential design service, which launched last year.

Designed as a collaboration between US studio S3 Architecture and the luxury carmaker, the angular black-cedar home is set to be built in Hudson Valley, New York.

It will be the first property built as part of the carmaker's service that aims to design bespoke spaces for its clients to show off their most cherished motors.

This week saw two high-profile designers pass away. Dutch celebrity designer Jan des Bouvrie, who was known for introducing minimalist interiors to the Netherlands, died at the age of 78 after a multi-year battle with prostate cancer.

In Paris, Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada, the founder of the brand Kenzo, died of coronavirus at the age of 81.

Named Lost House, the home in King's Cross, which has built-in raw concrete furniture, a fish pond in a lightwell and a swimming pool in the master bedroom, has recently come on the market.

Also in London, Joseph Henry gave his take on the continuing conflict between the Architecture Foundation-backed Antepavilions and the local council.

"The current kerfuffle between Hackney Council and the Antepavilion project shows that architects still don't understand the role of planning and why it is a vital tool in designing and securing a high quality built environment for all," he wrote in an opinion piece.

In architecture news, Snøhetta unveiled designs for two major projects. In El Paso, Texas, the studio revealed its plans for a children's museum with a barrel-vaulted roof.

It also unveiled visuals for the Cheongju New City Hall in South Korea, which will use the existing government building as its entrance.
