Ecuadorian urbanist and environmental planner Ana María Durán Calisto is co-founder of award-winning practice Estudio A0.

Calisto’s practice is recognised for its innovative, environmentally conscious design and has won multiple awards, including the Amazonia Infrastructure Award. Notable projects include the Quito Publishing House, the first building in continental Ecuador to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Calisto is currently a PhD candidate at UCLA, focusing on the urban history of Amazonia. Her recent exhibition ‘Surfacing - The Civilised Agroecological Forests of Amazonia’ was featured in the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2023.

She currently teaches at Yale School of Architecture as well as having previously taught at Harvard University, Pratt Institute School of Architecture, and Columbia University and has been awarded the Public Voices Fellowship, Loeb Fellowship and Mark Cousins Theory Award.
