Mazul
by Revolution

Winner: Rural house of the year 2021 Mazul Beachfront Villas are a residential development by Revolution in Santa Elena El Tule, Oaxaca.

The concept of the project was to create a set of simple and minimal houses that could provide a place for rest, wash, cook and enjoy the virgin landscape of the site, with no luxury elements but the nature outside.

The design was inspired by the existing natural stones of the site called Chicharron, which have unique texture and colour characteristics. The project also needed to be very low cost and resistant the extreme weather conditions. A space where the interior and the exterior coexist with one another.

Judges comments: "This project is something one can connect to, something more budget. There is beauty in the ordinary, the absence of any particular innovation and ease of accessibility."
